'Mummy Spotlight' Q&A with Emily Reed

Maternal Insights: Q&A with Emily Reed in the Mummy Spotlight

Each month, we shine the spotlight on Mums because we think they are all amazing!

We asked Mum of one, Emily, some questions on family life and the joys and challenges of motherhood...

How has motherhood surprised you?

That's a tricky one, a lot is surprising, just becoming in total charge of a little human is surprising enough! Also how much you can do with one hand 😂

What is a typical day like for you and your family?

So depending on the day of the week, a typical day for us would be waking at 6.30/7am (after many wake ups during the night, we're still waiting for that all important sleeping through!) Arthur tends to have another feed in bed and we go downstairs to have breakfast. Arthur has a nap around 9.30 and we then try to go out after that, either to a baby group, a walk with another mum friend, or on a very boring day the weekly shop! Our days usually consist of a lot feeds in the car and wild nappy changes! Arthur will usually have his second and last nap in the car on the way home. We'll have a play in the garden or go for a walk to the local swings before dinner.

What is the biggest challenge when it comes to motherhood?

I'd say the biggest challenge is really having no time to get anything done, i'm so lucky my partner has been working from home most of Arthur's life and has taken over all laundry duties and dinner for us 😂   Arthur feeds to sleep and most naps at home are contact naps so i'm very limited to what i can do during the day!

What is the biggest joy?

The biggest joy is just getting to see his little face every day, his smile and laugh just light up my day! Just watching him learn new things and change is amazing!

Best piece of advice you have been given or would give to a new mum?

I'd say just trust your instinct; you know your baby better than anyone. You'll get a lot of advice, some will be great, some very outdated and some very unwelcome! And it's ok to not listen to any of it! Oh and also you cannot spoil a baby, cuddle your baby as much as you like 🙂
